Welcome to Fort Salonga Elementary School. Fort Salonga School, built in 1967, has a long and proud history of educational excellence, which provides instruction from kindergarten through the third grade. We also act as a host to two Pre-K classroom sections that is run by the Scope Educational Program. Our school is a place that is a warm and nurturing environment. This allows students to be challenged, to take risks and reach their full potential both through academic and emotional development.

The staff at Fort Salonga have a wealth of experience and enthusiasm for our students. As you enter the main lobby at Fort Salonga you are greeted warmly, as you are a member of the “Fort Salonga Family.” The faculty is made up of a group of dedicated professionals who have a love for children and learning. They provide a rich balanced literacy program that is made up of several types of reading and writing. This research-based program: includes read-aloud, shared reading, literature circles and independent reading. It is through this approach that our students are supported as they develop their reading skills, and it is aligned with the New York State Next Generation State Standards (NYSNGSS.) These learned reading strategies are modeled independently, and teacher’s continually monitor their students progress through consistent observation. Therefore, allowing students to be leveled which is based upon their individual abilities.

Fort Salonga Elementary School prides itself in being a 21st Century school which consistently seeks opportunities for critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and digital literacy. Our overarching goal is to prepare our students to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Particularly with the advent of artificial intelligence. Each classroom includes chrome books for individual use, Smart Board Technology and document cameras. Our math program aligns itself with our technology and is based upon a foundational approach. Students’ mathematical needs are continually addressed, and skills are refined as they move through the program. Science and social studies are taught through non-fiction literacy. Our annual science fair gives students the opportunity to showcase their talents in the field of science.

Additionally, we offer a number of clubs and activities which provide a well-balanced program for the students at Fort Salonga. Our third-grade students are encouraged to participate in Science Club, Math Club, Chorus, Art Club and Student Council. Supporting the outstanding staff is our wonderful Fort Salonga Parent Teacher Association that is made up of dedicated parent volunteers. They are equal partners in the education of their children.

Lastly, our greatest concern is about our students’ safety and overall, well-being. The Fort Salonga family is eagerly anticipating your child’s arrival, and we look forward to a successful 2025-2026 school year.
